New Meditations
Challenging Thoughts for Challenging TimesResentments are when we revisit past grievances. We refuse to let go of someone’s transgressions against us because we are obviously right – and they are dead wrong. Resentments are barbed with anger and disappointment in another person’s behavior.
The problem is, our justification to hold on to these grievances only hurts us – and we are usually blind to the effect this has on us. Resentments cause a wall between us and others – and not just between those we have grievances towards. We begin to see life through our anger. Keeping our resentments colors our perception, and destroys our ability to move on in all our relationships.
We have allowed their actions or attitudes to overpower us. And because of our anger, we are shackled to them. Anger is a corroding substance that begins to run throughout all of our relationships. Its negative energy spirals us down.
Centered Action
But just how do we forgive them if they wronged us – didn’t appreciate us – or took away friendship or love or stuff? We have to be rid of our resentments or it begins to erode our humanity and trust in others – all others. One bad experience can warp and color the way we perceive life.
The unrest caused by our anger can be a great motivator, if we let it. We need to set free their seeming transgressions against us so we can have peace. We have to see that our feeling at ease, is much more important than our being right.
No one is all good or all bad. Can you see their Goodness?
