Be Patient… and Expect Miracles

It’s that time of year. New Year, fresh start, filled with Hope – we make our New Year’s resolutions list. The root for resolution is resolve – which contains a lot of self-determination and in my experience, judgement. We usually have on our list all the things we didn’t do or in our opinion, didn’t do well enough last year. There are usually items that we think we should do because they are “good” for us. The list usually looks like this: lose weight, exercise more, clear that clutter…start or stop some behavior. We are making the list to get us to do or be “better.” We don’t usually take into consideration where we are right now, including our resistance to actually doing the items on the list. We can muster the energy and resolve for a few days or even a few weeks, then life gets in the way and our resolutions are forgotten…until next year when we again take stock of the year that has passed…or passed us by.

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Instead, I like having daily Intentions with small baby action steps in the direction of my Heart’s Goals. If I can say “I Intend (fill in the blank)” then it is coming from my Heart not out of worry or guilt or shoulds. I might have a big ultimate goal, but I focus on what is an easy and manageable first step today. If I want to change a habit to make it life-long, I have to start small and make sure it fits reasonably into my current lifestyle. If it interferes or seems too difficult today, I will inevitably let it fall away. And I have to be willing to look at that darn resistance…my justification thoughts that get in my way.

I had an Intention to get into better physical shape. I had years of gym memberships where I paid but never went to the gym. Because of my resistance and old ideas, I could not force myself to get consistent. I was not listening to my body about what would be an easy and comfortable action. I finally determined that walking was that action. And (please don’t laugh) I determined that I could commit to five minutes a day. When I started, I felt a bit ridiculous, but five minutes was all I could commit to with no resistance. After all, anyone can fit in a daily five-minute walk. My other Intention was to dissolve my resistance to gain a life-change. So, I patiently walked five-minutes per day the first week. On week two, I progressed to seven minutes. I didn’t pay attention to how fast or how far or how many steps I was walking. I just cranked up the music on my phone and went for a short daily walk. I am now averaging 35-40 minutes most days and liking it….and sometimes craving it! And the process is still on-going. For me this is a change of attitude and a miracle.

Aside from my resistance, I also needed to be open to see old limitation ideas that were blocking me…to see them as lies, and release them. In this case mine was “I’m just not and never have been athletic.” With any limitation thought, If I believe it, I’m claiming it as my truth – and then I’m stuck with it.

My walking time is a judgement free zone – whatever I do in the direction of my Intention I see as Source Powered and is always a Win. If I can’t fit it in today – I just continue to have it as part of my normal day’s routine tomorrow. I had an Intention to improve my fitness. I took baby action steps and literally walked through my resistance, while making a commitment to my Health and Well-Being. I sent out my Desires to the Universe, took actions, and Source did for me what I could not do for myself. I continue to practice being Patient and Intending (which for me includes expecting a Miracle).

Sometimes our intentions are to stop doing something that we realize isn’t working. The path toward that Intended Goal may be Prayer only – with an Intention to stop using force to make something happen. Sometimes no action is a spiritual action.

Centered Action:

Whether your goal is to start something new or stop something that is not working, the Solution is the same. We send out our Heart’s Desired Intentions to the Universe…and Trust. Then…Be Patient…and expect Miracles.

To our Health and Well Being!!
