Challenging Thoughts for Challenging Times

Posture makes the man.  This seems like a ridiculous statement but posture portrays how we feel physically and how we feel about ourselves emotionally.  The good news is that we can feel better physically and emotionally by changing how we carry ourselves physically. 

Try the following:

  • Pull back your shoulders and sit or stand taller with your chest open and your head held high. This will make you feel more confident.  And it makes you more approachable.
  • Try to envision your head centered over your hips. Then relax…and breathe.  This will give you a sense of grounding.
  • Take your mom’s advice and…sit up straight. Slouching inhibits your breathing, which results in less oxygen getting to your brain. When you sit up straight, you’ll be able to breathe more fully and stay more focused.

Throughout the day ask yourself “How am I standing?  How am I walking?  Are my shoulders back and my head up or are my shoulders rounded and my head hanging down?” 

 

Centered Action

When you stand taller with your shoulders back – aligned and centered – you will force yourself to feel better about yourself…Just like it is hard to feel badly if you are smiling.  It is amazing how carrying ourselves physically can affect how we feel emotionally.  There is a link between our physical being and our emotional/spiritual being.  Stand and Walk with confidence.
